  • High expectations across the board
  • Clear boundaries set so that pupils know exactly where the lines are drawn
  • A disciplined environment so that pupils can get on and learn
  • A commitment that we will do all we can to ensure that your sons and daughters are safe

A copy of the latest SEN Information Report can be found on our 'School Policies' page.

West Hatch takes a whole school inclusive approach to students with special educational needs, recognising that the aims of the school (‘to be the best that they can be’) are the same for all students, whatever their abilities.

The SEN department are a diverse and enthusiastic team with a range of skills. They provides support for students who may need some short term support with their learning or longer term support. Support is provided in a flexible and child centred way. The Learning Support Centre is the main hub of the Learning Support Team. This is open to students from 8:30am to the end of the day including break and lunchtimes.

Student support may be within lesson time, in a one to one session, in a small group or can be support ‘behind the scenes’ (which can involve the LSAs and teaching staff working collaboratively to provide differentiation).  Our support takes many forms, for example literacy, maths, reading, social and emotional skills.

At West Hatch, all students with special educational needs are allocated a keyworker who will make contact with parents if the need arises as well as arranging meetings throughout the year. The department are an approachable and friendly team who aim to answer any queries regarding SEN and take action to resolve them swiftly and efficiently.

"I never feel like I don’t have anyone to go to. The Learning Support Team always give me options about how I like to be supported."
