West Hatch High School is a vibrant, oversubscribed secondary school that seeks to ensure every member of its community has the opportunity to excel. As well as aiming for all our students to achieve outstanding outcomes, the school has a strong foundation of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development; that underpins all our work and was recently identified as ‘a real strength’ by Ofsted.
Through a wide ranging, imaginative and constantly evolving curriculum, the school offers students the opportunity to study a range of interesting subjects to meet their individual needs. At the same time, staff are offered the opportunity to teach subjects that both engage their interests and challenge them intellectually.
Moving to a House system has enabled us to develop a number of leadership opportunities for both students and staff. Students now work closely with others from a range of year groups, giving them skills for life and a chance to be involved in peer mentoring for example. We are a strong community and vertical tutoring has brought us even closer together.
We are continuously seeking to create opportunities for staff to develop; whether it be through taking on trips and visits such as the World Challenge or Duke of Edinburgh Award, or through our innovative Leadership Programme that staff can choose to follow. We value our staff tremendously and are always looking to build upon their skills and experiences. At West Hatch we believe in lifelong learning and the development of both staff and students are of equal importance.
As a school we are committed to Initial Teacher Training and supporting the future leaders of our education system. A large number of our trainees have gone on to secure teaching positions at the school and we are proud of the work we do in preparing them for their future careers. All trainees follow the same detailed support package that our NQT’s follow, with weekly induction sessions and time with their mentors.
Thank you for the interest you have shown in West Hatch.
