Student stars on West End stage

A West Hatch High School student has made a breakthrough starring performance on the West End stage.

Nathan Avery (known as Nathan Lloyd) appeared in the musical comedy 'A Lazy Ace' at Her Majesty's Theatre.

Nathan, 16, who is in Year 11 at the Chigwell school, joined PQA (the Pauline Quirke Performing Arts Academy in Woodford Green) a year ago and attends regularly on Saturday mornings.

The Academy has been working on the production in recent months.

The comedy, by writer, music producer and songwriter Terry Ronald, was specially commissioned by PQA and was performed along with two other PQAs (Brentwood and Chelmsford) on Sunday, February 19.

'The Lazy Ace' featured a full professional standard set and fantastic range of songs from retro classics Viva Las Vegas, Luck be a Lady, and Jailhouse Rock as well as musical favourites Hard Knock Life, Naughty, Razzle Dazzle and chart pop hits Shake It Off, Roar and Trouble Maker.

As well as being a background performer singing and dancing as part of a group, Nathan had a solo part as ‘Jakey Ground’ where he was able to act and sing as a main character.

Nathan said: “I know this is where I want to be - on stage. It was amazing, I loved every minute of it.”

West Hatch High School Head Teacher Frances Howarth said: "We are very proud of Nathan and always thrilled to see students from West Hatch following their dreams."
