West Hatch High School raises £274 for Macmillan Cancer Support

Pupils and staff at West Hatch High School, Chigwell, raised a magnificent £274 for Macmillan Cancer Support when they joined in the Macmillan World's Biggest Coffee Morning event on Friday (September 30).

The event was co-organised by Pastoral Support Co-Ordinator Mrs M Hall and Year 9 student Arjun Kuhaendran.

Arjun said: "We sold cupcakes, brownies and cookies. This was my first coffee morning and it went really well. We didn’t expect to raise so much."

Arjun was helped by a team of fellow students (Jacques, Nathan, Remi, Sonya, Charlie, Seyon, Bobby and Ajay).

He added: "The support from Mrs Howarth and Mrs Hall helped make the day happen and the extra baking of the brownies and the marble cake from Mrs Sharma helped us a lot in raising money because they were sold in seconds.

"I hope that the money we raised will benefit people with cancer who are supported by Macmillan."

Headteacher Frances Howarth said: "At West Hatch we constantly encourage students to think of others less fortunate than themselves.

"Each House has their Charity Ambassadors and Arjun is a wonderful example to follow: he is to be commended for his efforts.

"My thanks also to Mrs Hall and Mrs Sharma for raising awareness of the amazing work of Macmillan Cancer Support. Very well done to all involved."

More donations are expected to be received next week.
