Tributes paid to former chairman of governors

West Hatch High School has paid tribute to its former chairman of governors Ann Miller who died last Saturday.

Headteacher Daniel Leonard said, "Mrs Miller supported the school as Chair of Governors for many years and presided over a very successful period in the school's history. She was a formidable force in ensuring West Hatch provided high quality educational provision for all its students and always expected the best".

"She left her mark on West Hatch and will be mourned by the school community."

Mrs Miller was a schoolteacher in Epping and played an active role in local government. She was one of Epping Forest District Council's founding members following the creation of Epping Forest District Council in 1974, and in 1988, she became the council's first female chairman. She also did much to modernise the role and develop deeper links within the community. Mrs Miller believed passionately in education. She worked hard to provide local libraries.
