Ten students in Year 9 to Year 12 at West Hatch High School, Chigwell, took part in a 'medicine carousel' in London when they met experts from various fields of medicine.

The session, held at Barber-Surgeon's Hall in The City, saw students - who sat in small groups - visited by professionals from a variety of different areas of medicine. 

They listened to them talk about their careers and what was involved and were given an opportunity to ask questions. 

They also spoke to medical students and were given information about the Extended Medical Degree programme at King’s College London where students can study for a medicine degree over six years. 

Half of the first two years are dedicated to learning study skills required for university-level study.

The course is aimed at students from London state schools and the outer areas and has an entry requirement is A, B, B.

West Hatch High School associate assistant headteacher Justine Williams, who is also head of social sciences and the school's aspirations co-ordinator, said: "The students represented the school extremely well and showed exemplary behaviour.

"They were all taking notes and asked interesting questions. 

"The feedback from the students was good and they said it really helped them understand more about medicine and the required study."
