A West Hatch High School team will take on seven other teams from local schools at the Epping Forest Parliamentary Debating Competition on Friday, November 13.

The competition is held annually by Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing.

This year’s Motion is “This House believes that it would be in Britain’s best interests to remain within the European Union”.

The West Hatch team of Nilofer Sait and Ropa Gutu will be speaking against the motion.

West Hatch High School headteacher Frances Howarth said: "We have supported this competition since its conception by Eleanor Laing soon after she first became the MP for Epping Forest, in fact the first competition was held in our Sixth Form Library.

"Debating develops very important communication skills in the students that represent West Hatch and all the other schools that take part."
