Youth choir wins two categories at Stratford and East London Music Festival

The Modality Youth Choir - which features nine West Hatch High School students - took two of the awards at this year’s Stratford and East London Music Festival.


 

The Modality Youth Choir - which features nine West Hatch High School students - took two of the awards at this year’s Stratford and East London Music Festival.

The choir, which also features students from Trinity, Chingford Foundation and Woodbridge High Schools, was judged first in the youth choir and amateur choir sections.

The choir was marked as 'outstanding' in the youth choir category with the adjudicator awarding 90 marks, the highest he awarded in the festival.

He said the choir gave a performance of "a real professional standard".

The  choir is directed by Jenny Ewington, a singing teacher at West Hatch, who also arranges much of the music that the choir sing.

She said: “The girls sounded really professional and performed with confidence and poise.”

The choir, which rehearses on Monday evenings in South Woodford, was accompanied by Matt Lowrie on piano.

The choir will be performing at the Rotary Youth Makes Music concert at New Hall, Chigwell School, on Friday, February 27.
