Year 10 Students Step Into the Future at the Y.E.S. World of Work Conference

On Wednesday 4th February, a selected group of Year 10 students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Y.E.S. Partnership’s World of Work Conference at the Delta Hotel in Waltham Abbey. Our West Hatch students joined peers from Roding Valley for a full day designed to broaden their understanding of the world of work and prepare them for life beyond Year 11.

The morning began with an energetic team building challenge: constructing towers out of spaghetti and marshmallows. The activity helped students think about communication, problem-solving, and resilience — skills that are essential in any career.

Students then took part in sessions exploring their post 16 options, including apprenticeships, T Levels, and other pathways. They also reflected on interview techniques, CV building, and how to present themselves professionally.

During the break, students enjoyed a generous spread of tea, coffee, pastries, cookies and had lunch in the Cast Iron Grill – where a few students discovered that the “onion rings” were actually calamari!

The afternoon offered the chance to speak with facilitators and volunteers from a wide range of industries. These conversations gave students valuable insight into different roles, career journeys, and the skills employers are looking for.

We are incredibly grateful to The Y.E.S. Partnership, who organises the event, which is completely free for schools to attend.

Our Year 10 students represented West Hatch brilliantly and left the conference with clearer ambitions, stronger skills, and a renewed sense of motivation for the future.
