Recovery Premium

Use of the Recovery Premium 2021/22

Year 11 Small Group Intervention:

Overview:

The recovery premium was used to deliver targeted small group intervention to year 11 students from trained staff in the following subjects; Maths, English, Biology, History, Spanish, Psychology and PE. The small group intervention model involved 1 trained staff member tutoring 3 students in a group together for 1 hour per week, either before or after school, for a total of 11 weeks.

Selection of students:

Year 11 students were identified and selected based on underperformance in key subjects with a bias towards English and maths attainment, who would benefit from the small group intervention model to support them to catch up and consolidate their learning. A summary of the subjects, number of sessions per week and number of students involved is below.

Impact:

Analysis of the small group intervention programme shows it was an effective way to support students to catch up and consolidate learning. 73% of students involved improved their attainment by 1-3 sublevels when comparing their attainment at the start of the tutoring to their final GCSE result in their tutored subject. Using the same measure 37% of students improved their attainment by 4+ sublevels.

Key Stage 3

In addition to the above programme we also ran a smaller KS3 intervention programme, after school across a number of subjects.  This ran in June and July 2022 across curriculum areas such as maths, geography, IT, drama and English.
