A group of Year 10 students from West Hatch High School attended the recent YES Partnership’s 'World of Work' Conference at the Marriott Hotel, Waltham Abbey.

The aim of the conference, funded by the YES (Youth Employment Strategy) Partnership, was to prepare students for the world of work and provide them with an insight into a variety of different careers.

Students had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, including preparing for interviews, CV writing and team building exercises.  

These were overseen by facilitators from local businesses and the YES committee. 

The students enjoyed the day and gained much from the opportunity to network with local employers and employees. 

Two of the students, Daisy Corless and Fatima Mokhbat, impressed the construction company Willmott Dixon so much that they were offered the chance to visit their offices to gain an insight into some of the work the company does.

Geoffrey Towsey, the school's careers leader, said: "The work of the YES Partnership is fantastic and their Motivation and World of Work Conferences are amazing opportunities for our students to get involved with; they always find the events very informative, engaging and it gets them thinking about the future."

All students received a certificate of attendance from Epping Forest District Council chairman councillor Richard Bassett and Chigwell Parish Council chairman Darshan Sunger.
