School holds Year 6 Open Evening

West Hatch High School opened its doors to prospective students on Thursday evening with more than 1,000 visitors at the school.

Staff and current students welcomed families and spent the evening helping them understand what life is like as a student at West Hatch and how the school supports that difficult transition between primary and secondary school so students feel comfortable, safe but also challenged in their learning when they join in Year 7.

Headteacher Daniel Leonard spoke to parents about the family environment that is central to the school’s vision while developing pupils both academically and personally.

These are the key values that underpin everything that is carried out at the school.

Audiences in the main hall also heard from Year 7 students Kaion Lisbie and Sienna Black, Year 9 student Kwame Adu, Year 11 student Imogen Stephens and Year 13 Senior Ambassadors Natasha Watts and Emilio Vrahimi.

Mr Leonard said: "It is always a pleasure to welcome visitors to the school and to be able to show them what makes West Hatch such a special place.

"Our exceptional staff provide the building blocks for students to be successful both in their learning and as a person.

"This is why we develop such well-rounded young people and why our results at GCSE and A-Level remain so strong year on year.”

West Hatch received more than 730 applications last year for 249 places.

The school is now in its second year of expansion in terms of pupil numbers and will soon have state-of-the-art facilities, including a new sports centre with dance studio and fitness suite to ensure the school continues to be able to provide a first rate education to its students.

The school is holding a limited number of tours during the school day so that parents can see the school in action.
