West Hatch High School's Under-16 basketball team have won the district cup after a hard-fought 33-32 victory against St Mark's School.

The Harlow school scored a three-point shot in the closing seconds to finish within one point of West Hatch.

Having come from behind in the first quarter, West Hatch had a comfortable lead at the end of the third quarter but St Mark's rallied and put the team under tremendous pressure.

The West Hatch players worked hard to stay in the lead and finish the game as district champions.

Headteacher Daniel Leonard said: "We are very proud of the boys. They train exceptionally hard and showed a fantastic attitude throughout the competition and indeed the final match.

"I’d also like to thank the staff involved, particularly Mr Hoy who gives up many hours of his time to support the boys and help them develop."
