West Hatch High School Student is double Karate World Champion

A Year 11 student at West Hatch High School, Chigwell, has returned victorious from various karate competitions around the world - and is now a double world champion.

Chris Ashwell won the IKU world championships in Ireland and three gold medals, including the mens team, at the UWK English National Championships.



 

A Year 11 student at West Hatch High School, Chigwell, has returned victorious from various karate competitions around the world - and is now a double world champion.

Chris Ashwell won the IKU world championships in Ireland and three gold medals, including the mens team, at the UWK English National Championships.

In his most recent competition, the UWK World Championship event in Italy, Chris came away with an individual gold sealing his success as a double world champion.

Chris had to qualify for the UWK World Championships by competing in several national championships.

Along the way Chris beat opponents from Romania and Italy as well as England.

West Hatch High School headteacher Daniel Leonard said: "We are so proud of Chris for his amazing achievements in becoming a double world champion. 

"He has worked so hard to get to this point and I am delighted that all his hard work has paid off. 
"We look forward to following his progress in the future."
