Hundreds of prospective Sixth Form students visited West Hatch High School this evening to find out more about the post-GCSE courses available.

The Sixth Form Open Evening gave current Year 11 students and their parents the chance to tour the school and learn about West Hatch's successes at AS-Level, A-Level and through its BTEC courses.

Talks were given by Headteacher Frances Howarth, Director of Sixth Form Dina Sterlini, Head of Sixth Form Anjala Sharma and Sixth Form students William Harris (Head Boy from Year 13) and Danielle Benattar (a Senior Prefect from Year 12).

Current Sixth Form students acted as guides and showed visitors around the various departments and Sixth Form Centre.

They were also on hand to answer questions.

Information was also available regarding The 'Honours Programme and Specialist Pathways' in partnership with Oxford University which support and develop students ready for Oxford, Cambridge and other Russell Group Universities.

Headteacher Frances Howarth said: "We are thrilled that so many post-16 students joined us for our Sixth Form Open Evening. Prospective Sixth Form students were impressed with our superb facilities, including the swimming pool,  multi-gym and purpose-built Sixth Form Centre.

"The school's excellent track record for teaching and its very impressive results were specifically commented on by our visitors. I look forward to welcoming many of the students into our Sixth Form in September."

Head of Sixth Form Anjala Sharma said: "Our students truly are ambassadors for the Sixth Form. They were excellent guides and demonstrators and conducted themselves in a very professional way. 

"We have had very positive comments from parents and students with comments such as 'students are so friendly', 'students were honest about the transition from GCSE to A-Level study', 'students have a great sense of humour' and 'students spoke highly of the support they have received from the Sixth Form teaching team'."

Mrs Sharma added: "It was a remarkable evening - a vibrant buzz and atmosphere pervaded the whole school."

In the last few years all of West Hatch's Sixth Form alumni students have achieved places at universities and on prestigious Higher Apprenticeships at renowned City institutions from KPMG to the Bank of England.

Last year the school recorded its best ever post-16 results with 58 per cent of Year 13 students achieving A*, A and B grades and an overall pass rate of 99 per cent.

The deadline for applications for Sixth Form places for next September is January 27.
