Students at West Hatch High School, Chigwell, raised £92.55 for the children's charity Barnardo's when they held a cake sale.

The fundraising event was organised by Year 8 student Arjun Kuhaendran who has also held two other cake sales for charity.

He said: "The day went really well. We sold cupcakes, brownies and cookies.I am hoping to do something else next time to make it more fun for the pupils. Overall it was fantastic I didn’t expect to get such a high total!"

He added: "The help from (fellow students) Remi, Seyon and Sonya was what made it go so well on the day. The support from (headteacher) Mrs Howarth made the day happen and the extra baking of brownies from Mrs Sharma helped us a lot in making money.

"The cakes went in seconds as soon as the crowd came. Organising it was a bit tricky but with the help of Nathan it made it much easier for me.

"I hope that the money we raised will benefit the young poor children supported by Barnardo's."

Headteacher Frances Howarth said: "I have been very impressed with Arjun’s and Nathan’s commitment to fundraising and to wanting to help others who are less fortunate than themselves.

"The event was very well planned and organised. Both boys are a real asset to the school.”
