Students at West Hatch High School cooked up special dishes when they took part in the Rotary Young Chef competition.

Year 9 students competed in the West Hatch heat of the competition which aims to develop cookery and food hygiene skills, highlight healthy eating and show students' ability to organise, plan and cope in a demanding situation.

Raj Narwalt, the school’s Design Technology Teacher and Rotary Young Chef Co-ordinator, said: "Congratulations to all the Year 9 participants. We were impressed with the level of enthusiasm and hard work that the pupils exhibited."

The winner was Melissa Toplis who cooked Chicken Roulade wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with a creamy layer of goats cheese mixed with basil, oregano and rosemary laid on top of juicy grilled asparagus alongside crispy roasted potatoes.

Runner-up was George Green who presented a classic Spaghetti Bolognese. Both are among the students who now progress to the next round of the competition.
